Your health
Lets Get Informed
Education and knowledge are the most effective weapons against HIV/Aids and ST D's. Take control of your life and get tested. Knowing your status is vital as it protects the health of you and your sexual partner.
Most ST D's do not show any symptoms, so it is important to get tested as soon as you can. Having one STD can greatly increase your chance of contracting other STD's, including HIV.
`Know Your Own Body
Being aware of how your body functions when it's healthy will help you to recognize any symptoms which may signal an unintended pregnancy or STD.
Although STD’s are usually undetectable, some symptoms may include skin changes (like sores) on the genitals as well as unusual discharges or discomfort when urinating. In the case of HIV infection, it may take up to 10 years before symptoms occur in people. Others may experience unexplained weight loss, flu-like symptoms, diarrhea, fatigue, persistent fevers, night sweats, headaches or severe or recurring vaginal yeast infections.
Lets Get to the Point
The only way to be sure that you're having safer sex is to keep your partner's blood, semen or vaginal fluids out of your body. Abstinence is the safest method, but if you are going to have sex always use a Leis Do It' condom for vaginal, anal or oral sex.
Lets Get Tested
It's a great idea for you and your partner to visit a doctor or clinic before you have sex, to discuss your risks and to find out which ST D's you should get tested for. STD testing is not a standard part of routine care. So make sure you discuss this with your health care provider. HIV testing always requires informed consent.
The Advantages of Getting Tested Early
If you have a STD and are unaware of it, you could pass it on to your partner, as well as compromise your health now and in the future. Some STD's are curable with antiblotics whilst others, though not curable, have treatments that can help reduce symptoms or lessen the diseases effects. HIV, for example is an STD for which there is not yet a cure. Finding out early if you have contracted HIV is critical as it enables you to take advantage of new medications that can help you live a longer and healthier life.
Lets Get Real
Most contraceptions provide little to no protection against HIV and other STD's. Although they're not 100°Io effective, consistent and correct use of latex condoms by those who are sexually active can substantially reduce the risk of unplanned pregnandes and the sexual transmission of HIV or other STD's.
